Mission
Through tangible artifacts and creative immersion, Lost in New Haven fosters wonder, respect, and appreciation for the diverse, multicultural tapestry that is New Haven, Connecticut; this the ultimate American story. Immigrants built this city on the unceded land of indigenous Quinnipiac peoples. We are committed to presenting this history. We believe in common ground, discourse, and community, especially during times of division and turbulence. We recognize people as repositories of history.
We offer all people of this land a platform to tell our collective story.

About the Collector
Robert S. Greenberg
Founder/Executive Director
Robert Greenberg, seasoned Art Director and designer, returned to New Haven after 26 years in New York City to build his ever-growing exhibit of historical New Haven artifacts. This project, a museum named Lost in New Haven, began in a single room within his father’s Acme Furniture building, grew into a temporary space on Grand Ave., and finally found its current home in a restored paint warehouse on Hamilton Street.
This collection exists against all odds—it’s been evicted twice and shrugged off dozens of times. Though this underdog status came with many difficulties, it ultimately became Lost in New Haven’s greatest asset. Many of the amazing artifacts here were initially overlooked or thrown out. Judicious search of forgotten attics, condemned buildings, and debris piles proved that the City of New Haven excels at developing new and exciting things yet struggles to prioritize historical preservation. Our artifacts are treated with reverence and presented with artistry. The collection grows daily via acquisition and donation. Lost in New Haven inspires nostalgia, creativity, community, and civic engagement in every visitor.
